I have been working as part of the Mwalua Wildlife Trust (MWT) since 2016, which was founded by my late husband Patrick Mwalua. It all began during a severe drought that hit the country and the wildlife parks were not spared. We came across a struggling buffalo trying to access a waterhole, without much success. Thousands of animals suffered in the heat and lack of water. This prompted the beginning of MWT, who delivered water in hired trucks travelling many miles directly to the wildlife parks. From wildlife conservation, community projects, and water for wildlife, I am committed to continue and expand the legacy started by Patrick.

Over the years, I have supported and developed charitable projects in India and Africa. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I became involved in projects in India providing practical support to vulnerable families and communities. I am also working closely with a school for children with special educational needs, providing support to help improve their opportunities and wellbeing. My charitable work has also extended to Uganda, where I have been involved in supporting a women’s centre that aims to empower women through skills and opportunities, as well as a village school helping to provide children with access to education and a better future.

For years, I dedicated my life to working with children worldwide, aiming to provide education and create lasting change. However, I frequently faced frustration due to a lack of transparency regarding how and where donation funds were being utilised. In February 2024, everything changed when I discovered an opportunity to build a school near Iganga, in Uganda. Today, this project provides over 230 children with a free education and a nutritious daily meal – finally bringing true accountability to the cause and immeasurable joy to their lives.

I have been working on a part time basis in environmental and society projects over the last 10 years. From woodland trees, water projects, educational projects, to promoting conservation of wildlife, forests, and ocean / river ecosystems. I started with tree planting projects, raising money for over 350 trees. Gradually I become associated with the late Patrick Mwalua in their water and environmental projects, river cleaning awareness and efforts with specialists with projects in the Nairobi, Ngong, and Lake Victoria areas. Since 2020, I have supported projects in Uganda for a women’s skills centre and village school near Iganga, in Uganda.

In 2018, I visited Iganga district in Eastern Uganda to preach the gospel together with a team of pastors, and as we were preaching door to door , family to family I discovered that many children were staying at home without education. I felt sad and asked why they were not studying, their parents explained that the government schools were at a distance, and another reason was the lack of school fees and scholastic materials. Later 2019, COVID-19 lockdowns slowed our efforts, but the idea was developed enough to enable my team and I to re-start in 2022. I purchased a small piece of built a temporary church structure in 2023. I led the team to introduce free education, and we started with the lower level under the trees, on grass, and some inside the church. The community welcomed the idea, but couldn’t do much to support the project until I met the team provided scholastic materials and went away to consider our request for support. from the UK (Kaushal, Nrupesh and Umesh) in early 2024, introduced to me by Namara Jane. In their first visit, they This was our turning point and dream come true. Our hopes were renewed, the classrooms were built, and toilets, clean borehole water that serves a 180 households too, and solar lights were also later installed at school, games equipments like swings and balls were bought, furniture and teaching material , we also manage to get qualified teaching staff and they pay their wages and accommodations every term. The number of pupils has since risen from 70 in 2024 to 230 by 2026. With 16 teaching staff. There is growing demand from villagers that we would like to fulfil.

I am an accountant, auditor, Business Development Services (BDS) specialist, women’s rights and gender equality advocate. I am the Founder of Hands of Hope, a women-led community organisation committed to creating self-empowered and resilient communities, and that runs a training centre for youngsters to provide them skills that will help them earn a living. I have a strong passion for improving the lives of women, teenage mothers, children, youth and other vulnerable groups. This has driven me to dedicate more than a decade to community development, empowerment and advocacy. We also run village outreach programmes that involve members of the communities who cannot travel to the training centre, to help them make home products they can sell in local and wider markets. This enables villages to earn a living and for women the communities to have greater independence / self-reliance. In our commitment to supporting women, my team and I are developing Mothers Love Recovery Home, a six-bed women-centred recovery and wellness facility designed to provide women with a safe, supportive and dignified space to rest, recover, rethink and start again. The home will also provide services including prenatal and postnatal support, newborn care, lactation support, counselling and wellness services.
